HARROD U17 INTER-COUNTIES BADMINTON TOURNAMENT
NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY 8-11 APRIL 2010 TEAM: Faye Brewster, Zoe Balfour, Nicola Gresty, Laura Stratford, Charis Wyatt Chris Gresty, Sam Griffiths, Jamie Roser, James Siddle, Freddie Speed We left Cheltenham bleary eyed due to the early start and arrived in Nottingham around 9.15am to join another 38 Counties for 4 days of competitive badminton. We unpacked our luggage and went to the University sports hall for the first task of the day, the Team photo. Our first 3 matches were against tough opposition from Hertfordshire, Kent and Leicestershire. Welcome to the world of ICT – we lost all 3 although the players tried their very best. This put us into the bottom half of the draw. Our second group saw wins against Shropshire and Somerset, but unfortunately we lost a very close game to Norfolk. The score was level going into the last 2 games, one of which we lost 15-13 in the 3rd. Our final group games saw us competing for positions 26th – 30th. Second and third day success against Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Northumberland saw us going into the last day heading towards winning our final group and finishing 26th. The game on Sunday morning was against Derbyshire who had played one less fixture than us, so a very tired Gloucestershire team did not manage to win this one. However, results elsewhere and a superior point’s difference still saw us finish 26th and top of our final group. The players performed and behaved very well over the 4 days, and were a credit to the County. Many of them performed above their level. This tournament sees all of the boys and 1 of the girls leave the juniors, and we wish them well as they join the seniors.
